The Big Five & Flamingos Safari in Samburu National Reserve

A key stop on The Big Five & Flamingos safari is Samburu National Reserve, located in northern Kenya along the Ewaso Nyiro River. Samburu is known for rare northern wildlife species often referred to as the Samburu Special Five.

Visitors may encounter Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, Beisa oryx, and the elegant gerenuk antelope. Game drives also provide opportunities to spot lions, elephants, leopards, and crocodiles along the riverbanks. The reserve’s rugged terrain and acacia landscapes create an ideal environment for wildlife photography and birdwatching.

Rift Valley Lakes

Another highlight of The Big Five & Flamingos safari is visiting the spectacular lakes of the Great Rift Valley. Lake Bogoria is famous for its geothermal hot springs and large flocks of flamingos that gather along the alkaline shoreline.

Nearby Lake Baringo offers peaceful boat excursions where travelers may see hippos, crocodiles, and a wide variety of bird species including African fish eagles and kingfishers. These lakes provide excellent opportunities for birdwatching, scenic photography, and understanding the ecological importance of Kenya’s Rift Valley lake system.

Rhino Conservation and Flamingos at Lake Nakuru

The safari continues to Lake Nakuru National Park, internationally known for rhino conservation and diverse wildlife populations. Visitors can see both black and white rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes, lions, and buffaloes roaming across the park’s acacia forests and grasslands.

Flamingos frequently gather along the lake’s shores, creating a spectacular pink horizon that attracts photographers and nature enthusiasts from around the world.

The Big Five Safari in Maasai Mara

The final highlight of The Big Five & Flamingos safari is the legendary Maasai Mara National Reserve, one of Africa’s most famous wildlife destinations. Game drives across the open plains offer excellent opportunities to spot the Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino.

During migration season, visitors may witness the dramatic Great Wildebeest Migration, when millions of wildebeest and zebras move across the Mara ecosystem in search of greener pastures.
