Day 1: Entebbe – Bwindi National Park

Upon arrival, a Bamboo Ecotours representative will warmly welcome you at Entebbe International Airport or pick you up from your hotel in Entebbe town. You will then begin your scenic journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, located in southwestern Uganda. The drive takes approximately 8–9 hours, passing through the picturesque countryside and the major western towns of Masaka, Mbarara, and Kabale.

Your first scheduled stop is at the Equator crossing near Masaka, where you can enjoy a short coffee break, take memorable photographs, and browse local handicrafts. This iconic landmark offers a unique opportunity to stand in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres at once.

Continue onward to Mbarara, where you will have lunch at the renowned Igongo Cultural Centre, known for its traditional cuisine and cultural exhibits that showcase the heritage of western Uganda.

After lunch, proceed through rolling hills and terraced landscapes toward the lush rainforest of Bwindi. Arrive in the evening at your lodge in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or alternatively near Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, depending on your trekking location.

You will head to the Bwindi National Park gate immediately after breakfast to get a briefing about the gorilla trek. The briefing will be conducted by the national park guide and will cover the basics on what to expect during the trek. It is at this point that you will be told which gorilla family to trek. It is likely that you will be joined by other visitors. The gorilla trek can take from few to many hours depending on how far the gorillas are inside the forest.

After breakfast, depart from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and drive north toward Queen Elizabeth National Park. The journey offers scenic views of southwestern Uganda’s rolling hills, crater lakes, and rural communities, making it a rewarding drive through some of the country’s most picturesque landscapes.

Upon arrival at Queen Elizabeth National Park, proceed directly for an afternoon game drive at the Kasenyi Plains, one of the park’s prime wildlife-viewing areas. The open savannah here is home to lions, elephants, Uganda kobs, buffaloes, warthogs, and various antelope species, as well as a rich variety of birdlife.

After your game drive, head to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay, relaxing as you prepare for another exciting day of wildlife exploration.

Begin the day with an early breakfast at the lodge before heading out to the renowned Kasenyi Plains in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Situated within the vast savannah landscapes of the Albertine Rift, the Kasenyi sector is one of the park’s prime wildlife-viewing areas and a favored hunting ground for predators.

This morning game drive offers excellent chances to encounter lions, large herds of buffaloes, elephants, Uganda kobs, topi, and bushbucks. While sightings of the complete “Big Five” are not guaranteed, lucky visitors may spot a leopard, elevating the experience to the “Big Four.” The open plains and scattered acacia woodlands create ideal conditions for photography and extended wildlife observation.

Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.

Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise

In the afternoon, embark on a scenic boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, the natural waterway linking Lake George and Lake Edward within Queen Elizabeth National Park. This cruise provides close-range wildlife viewing along the shoreline.

Expect to see large concentrations of hippos, Nile crocodiles, buffaloes, and elephants cooling off at the water’s edge, alongside a rich diversity of birdlife including fish eagles, kingfishers, and pelicans. The cruise offers a different ecological perspective of the park and is considered one of the highlights of any visit to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.

 

Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking – Kalinzu Forest & Transfer to Kampala/Entebbe

After an early breakfast, depart for Kalinzu Forest Reserve for an exciting chimpanzee trekking experience in their natural forest habitat. Kalinzu Forest is home to a large population of habituated chimpanzees, offering strong chances of sightings as they feed, groom, and move through the forest canopy.

The trek begins with a briefing from experienced guides before entering the forest in search of the chimpanzee troops. The duration of the trek varies depending on the location of the chimps, but once located, you will spend a designated time observing their behavior at close range.

In addition to chimpanzees, the forest is rich in primate diversity. You may encounter species such as the black-and-white colobus monkey, olive baboon, and red-tailed monkey, along with various bird species and indigenous flora.

After completing the trek, transfer back to Kampala or Entebbe, marking the end of your safari adventure. The drive offers scenic countryside views as you journey back toward the capital or the airport for your onward travel arrangements.
