Day 1: To Kisoro
Day 1: To Kisoro

In the early morning (7 am) we pick you from the guesthouse or hotel of your choice and leave for the South West of Uganda.

The first part of the journey takes us through central Uganda, and after a stop in Mbarara for lunch, we continue on the last stretch through a beautiful landscape also defined as the “Switzerland of Africa”: mountains, lakes, hills with cultivated terraces, tropical rainforest and bamboo forest. On the last hill the landscape unfolds beneath us, taking in the vast planes between Uganda, Rwanda and Congo, with the Virunga volcanoes dominating the view. At the bottom of the valley is Kisoro, where we will stay at the famous Travellers Rest Hotel. In the sixties the famous American ‘gorilla-woman’ Dian Fossey visited the Travellers Rest Hotel many, many times to do paperwork, relax or meet people. Fossey said about the hotel: “It was my second home”. Travellers Rest Hotel is just outside Kisoro and offers a cozy stay for the tourists coming to see the endangered mountain gorilla. The hotel, built in a somewhat colonial style, and entirely renovated in 1999, has a comfortable ambiance.

Day 2: Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi
Day 2: Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi

Today is the highlight of your journey — the unforgettable experience of gorilla tracking.

After an early breakfast, depart from Travellers Rest Hotel for a scenic one-hour drive to Nkuringo in the southern sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Upon arrival, you will attend a detailed ranger briefing at 7:45 AM, covering safety guidelines and trekking protocols. At approximately 8:30 AM, your guided trek into the dense rainforest begins.

Accompanied by experienced trackers and armed rangers, you will venture through thick vegetation, steep slopes, and mist-covered forest in search of a habituated gorilla family. The trek can be physically demanding and may last several hours, so a good level of fitness is recommended. However, every step is worth it the moment you encounter these extraordinary primates. Once located, you will spend up to one magical hour observing them at close range as they feed, groom, and interact in their natural habitat.

Day 3: Exploring Kisoro & Surroundings
Day 3: Exploring Kisoro & Surroundings

Today is dedicated to discovering the beauty and culture of Kisoro, with Travellers Rest Hotel as your comfortable home base. Kisoro offers a wide range of enriching activities, developed in close collaboration with local communities and conservation authorities. These experiences can be enjoyed individually or in groups, depending on your preference and fitness level.
